About This Special Issue
In the last 10 years, the Middle East cities faced armed conflicts. Many of their built-up environments were destroyed and most of their population were displaced or became refugees. These cities faced destruction in all levels such as physically, socially and economically besides the collapsing of the state institutions. Recently, there were attempts for reconstructing those cities from different stakeholders. The post-war reconstruction process is targeting the built environment, institutions, social and economic aspects. These integrated aspects must be considered to guarantee the sustainability of the reconstruction projects and to attract the indigenous residents to return back to their cities. The new SDGs were developed some principles that must be applied and considered in post-war reconstruction projects. The main goal of this special issue is to discuss the different methods and approaches to guide these attempts by learning about previous challenges in reconstruction of similar cases, and different applications that can help in the reconstruction phases.
